D-backs send Ross to DL

Jul 22, 2014 - 9:27 PM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers.

Ross is dealing with a strained left calf, an injury he initially sustained Saturday against the Chicago Cubs. He did make an appearance in Monday's series opener with the Tigers, producing a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning before being removed for a runner.

This will be the second DL stint for Ross this season, as he missed Arizona's first 18 games while recovering from offseason hip surgery.

In 66 overall games in 2014, the 33-year-old is batting .238 with two home runs and 11 RBI.

Outfielder Alfredo Marte was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The 25-year-old saw action in 11 games with the Diamondbacks back in May, going 5-for-22 with three RBI and 10 strikeouts.
