Veteran hurlers collide at Wrigley Field

Jorge De La Rosa and Edwin Jackson face each other on the mound Tuesday night in what could serve as a pre-acquisition when the Colorado Rockies meet the Chicago Cubs in game two of a four-game series at Wrigley Field.

Rockies ace De La Rosa is in the midst of a double-digit win season and becomes a free agent before the arrival of 2015, factors which make him a potential target for pitching needy teams. If no trade is made, Colorado would get a draft pick as compensation if it offers at least $14 million prior to him signing elsewhere.

The lefty gave up eight runs in his last loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 18, but has since gone 5-0 in six starts with a 3.05 earned run average. In his last three starts, he's pitched at least six innings and given up no more than a single earned run.

"If I get traded, I get traded," De La Rosa said. "I don't have to think about those things right now."

In five career meetings with the Cubs, he is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA.

As for Chicago, it can win two in a row for the first time since early in the month.

Jackson is in the midst of a four-year contract worth more than $50 million, and he's been lousy of late in game situations, going 0-4 with a 7.47 ERA since last winning on June 20.

He was raked for five runs in five innings in a 13-3 loss to San Diego at Wrigley on Thursday, and is 0-3 in his last four starts there with an ugly 11.57 ERA.

Eight matchups with the Rockies have yielded a 1-3 mark and a 12.66 ERA.

Possible good news for Jackson: Colorado has dropped seven straight on the road -- its longest streak in two seasons -- while scoring only 15 runs.

On Monday, Tsuyoshi Wada pitched seven innings to lead the Cubs to a 4-1 win over the Rockies.

Wada (1-1) notched his first career win after giving up just one run on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts in seven innings for the Cubs. Anthony Rizzo drove in two runs in the win.

Yohan Flande (0-3) is still looking for his first win after allowing two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings for the Rockies.

Colorado and Chicago split six meetings last season.
