Cubs claim RHP Ramirez to complete Garza trade
Jul 30, 2014 - 12:42 AM San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs claimed pitcher Neil Ramirez off waivers on Friday to complete a July 22 trade with the Texas Rangers.The Cubs originally sent pitcher Matt Garza to Texas in exchange for infielder Mike Olt, pitchers C.J. Edwards and Justin Grimm, and now Ramirez.
Ramirez has been assigned to Double-A Tennessee. The 24-year-old went 9-3 with an ERA of 3.84 over 21 starts with Double-A Frisco this season. The right- hander led the Texas League in strikeouts (127).
