Cuddyer finishes with 7 RBI, Rockies rout D-backs

Sep 20, 2014 - 5:12 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Cuddyer powered the Colorado offense with a career-high seven RBI, leading the Rockies to a 15-3 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second of a four-game set on Friday.

Cuddyer hit a grand slam and a three-run double, and Wilin Rosario finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Rockies, who have won four straight games.

"When he's been out there, he's showed that he is still an elite hitter in this game," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Cuddyer. "He gets the barrel to the ball with impact."

Jordan Lyles (7-3) gave up two runs on nine hits over six innings to earn the win.

Cody Ross, Mark Trumbo and Nolan Reimold each drove in a run for Arizona, which saw starter Chase Anderson (9-7) give up six runs on nine hits and two walks across five frames in the loss.

"They're leading the league in hitting and they showed why tonight," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of the Rockies.

Arizona wasted no time getting on the board. Ender Inciarte, A.J. Pollock and Miguel Montero all singled to load the bases in the first before Inciarte crossed home on Trumbo's groundout for the early lead.

The Rockies stranded two runners in scoring position in the second, but they went ahead in the fourth.

After Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson both singled, Rosario knocked in a run with a grounder up the middle. Rafael Ynoa then followed with an RBI double and DJ LeMahieu's sacrifice fly gave Colorado a 3-1 advantage.

Colorado added three more runs in fifth. Rosario drove in Cuddyer with a liner to center. Ynoa hit a two-run triple to right, but was thrown out at home to end the frame.

Jake Lamb got aboard with a one-out single in the sixth and came home on Ross' double to left, but the Rockies put the game out of reach with five runs in the home half.

LeMahieu led off the frame with a single and crossed home on Charlie Blackmon's base hit to center. Josh Rutledge singled and Morneau was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Cuddyer drilled Eury De La Rosa's 2-2 offering over the wall in left.

Cuddyer did more damage with the bases loaded in the eighth, clearing them with a double to left off Joe Paterson.

Game Notes

Cuddyer hit the eighth grand slam of his career... Pollock has reached base in 13 straight games ... The Rockies have hit a homer in 20 straight home games, the longest such streak in the majors since the New York Yankees' 21-game run from June 20-Aug. 3, 2012.
