Butler gets the call for Rockies against Diamondbacks
Sep 20, 2014 - 2:14 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Eddie Butler makes his second career start when the Colorado Rockies continue their four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field. The 23-year-old right-hander made his major league debut on June 6 against the Dodgers. He took a 7-2 loss after allowing six runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Trevor Cahill, who is 0-3 over his last five starts, takes the mound for the Diamondbacks. The righty hasn't won since Aug. 15 at Miami. He's just 2-5 with a 5.19 ERA since returning to the starting rotation on July 18.
In 13 career games (10 starts) against the Rockies, Cahill is 4-5 with a 4.33 ERA.
Friday night, Michael Cuddyer powered the Colorado offense with a career-high seven RBI, leading the Rockies to a 15-3 rout. Cuddyer hit a grand slam and a three-run double, and Wilin Rosario finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Rockies, who have won four straight games.
"When he's been out there, he's showed that he is still an elite hitter in this game," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of Cuddyer. "He gets the barrel to the ball with impact."
Jordan Lyles (7-3) gave up two runs on nine hits over six innings to earn the win.
Cody Ross, Mark Trumbo and Nolan Reimold each drove in a run for Arizona, which saw starter Chase Anderson (9-7) give up six runs on nine hits and two walks across five frames in the loss.
"They're leading the league in hitting and they showed why tonight," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of the Rockies.
The Rockies have hit a homer in 20 straight home games, the longest such streak in the majors since the New York Yankees' 21-game run from June 20-Aug. 3, 2012.
The Diamondbacks hold a 9-8 lead in the season series. They need one win for a fourth straight winning season against the Rockies.
