Garza ejected after hitting McCutchen twice
Sep 21, 2014 - 1:16 AM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Matt Garza was ejected from Saturday's game against Pittsburgh after hitting Pirates star Andrew McCutchen twice.Garza hit McCutchen in the third and fifth innings, the second time after the benches had been warned when Pirates starter Edinson Volquez threw inside to Brewers star Ryan Braun leading off the fourth.
The game was scoreless when McCutchen was hit on the left arm by a 92 mph fastball in the fifth. Garza punched his glove, apparently upset by the pitch. He was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Marty Foster.
The NL Central rivals are both battling for a playoff spot in the key division series. The Pirates entered play with a 4 1/2 game lead over the Brewers for the second NL wild-card spot.
Marco Estrada took over on the mound for Garza.
