Astros down Mets
Sep 27, 2014 - 4:41 AM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Altuve hit an RBI single as part of a three-run sixth inning to give the Houston Astros a 3-1 win over the New York Mets to open a season-ending three-game series.Matt Dominguez also drove in a run while Kevin Chapman (2-0) got the win for getting two outs for the Astros, who had lost their previous three. Brad Peacock gave up a run on four hits with seven strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in the start.
"We're going in the right direction and we're doing a lot of things right," said Houston interim manager Tom Lawless. "If we continue on this program that we're on we're going to be in the midst of things pretty soon."
Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run for the Mets, who have lost three of their last four. Carlos Torres (8-6) allowed three runs -- two earned -- in relief to take the loss.
Jon Niese gave up just three hits over 5 1/3 innings, but was pulled from the game due to an elevated heart rate.
"It just comes out of nowhere sometimes," said Niese. "It just feels like your heart is beating really fast and really hard."
Granderson hit his 20th home run of the year in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Houston, though, went on top in the sixth. With one out, Robbie Grossman doubled and Jose Altuve followed with a single to tie the game. Chris Carter then followed with a double and the throw to home beat Altuve, but Anthony Recker couldn't hang on to the ball and Altuve was safe. Two batters later, Dominguez singled home Carter for a 3-1 lead.
The final 11 New York hitters were set down in order, with Chad Qualls working the ninth for his 19th save of the season.
