Reds give GM Jocketty two-year extension

Sep 27, 2014 - 4:23 PM Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cincinnati Reds signed president of baseball operations and general manager Walt Jocketty to a two-year contract extension on Saturday.

Jocketty's original contract was to have expired at the end of this season.

"This franchise has had great success under Walt's guidance, and we're delighted he has signed a two-year extension," said Reds president/CEO Bob Castellini.

Jocketty joined the organization in January 2008 as a special assistant to Castellini and was named to his current position three months later. The Reds entered Saturday's action with a 74-86 record.

Jocketty's best season with the team came in 2010 when the Reds finished with a 91-71 record and took the National League Central crown by five games over the St. Louis Cardinals.

It was the team's first postseason berth since 1995.

Following the 2010 campaign, Jocketty was named Major League Baseball's Executive of the Year. He also won the award in 2000 and 2004 with St. Louis.

The Reds also won the NL Central in 2012 and earned a wild card berth in 2013.
