Orioles bring up Casilla from minors
Sep 27, 2014 - 6:14 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles announced Saturday that the contract of infielder Alexi Casilla was selected from Triple-A Norfolk.Casilla has spent the entire 2014 campaign in the minors, hitting .264 with one home run, eight doubles and 19 RBI over 56 games at Norfolk after a four- game stint at Single-A Aberdeen.
The 30-year-old native of the Dominican Republic last played in the majors in 2013 with the O's, appearing in 62 games and hitting just .214. Over 577 games with Minnesota and Baltimore, he has collected 12 homers, 76 doubles, 15 triples, 225 runs scored and 157 batted in with a .248 average.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated pitcher Preston Guilmet for assignment. Guilmet went 0-1 with a 5.23 earned run average in 10 games this season.
