Strasburg, Nationals down Marlins
Sep 28, 2014 - 1:34 AM Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Strasburg tossed six scoreless innings and drove in a run, as the Washington Nationals downed the Miami Marlins, 5-1, in the third contest of a four-game set.Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three-run double and Adam LaRoche drove in a run for the Nationals, who bounced back from a 15-7 loss in the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader.
Strasburg (14-11) surrendered just two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over six scoreless innings for the win for the NL East champions. He has 242 strikeouts on the season, the most in the National League.
"He's been unbelievable for this past month and pretty much all year long," Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper said of Strasburg.
Casey McGehee scored and had two hits for Miami, which has dropped two of its last three games.
"We just couldn't get anything going on Strasburg today," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.
Nathan Eovaldi (6-14) allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts over seven frames to lose his career-high eighth straight decision.
Washington started the scoring in the second. Harper led off with a single, moved to second on Wilson Ramos' base hit, took third on a force out and came around on Strasburg's sacrifice bunt.
Denard Span and Jayson Werth both singled around an Anthony Rendon walk to load the bases with one out in the fifth. Span came around on LaRoche's groundout for a 2-0 lead. Ian Desmond walked to reload the bases, but Eovaldi struck out Harper to limit the damage.
The Nationals loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth. Ramos grounded into a force out that retired Ryan Zimmerman at the plate, but Cabrera stepped up and cleared the bases with a double to the wall in right.
In the ninth, McGehee and Justin Bour both singled and Enrique Hernandez reached on a fielding error to load the bases off Drew Storen for Miami with one out.
Reed Johnson popped out to second before McGehee scored on Rendon's fielding error at third. Storen got Jarrod Saltalamacchia to line out to second for the third and final out.
