O'Dowd resigns as Rockies GM, Bridich promoted to post

Oct 8, 2014 - 5:03 PM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd has resigned after 15 seasons and Jeff Bridich was named as his replacement.

O'Dowd was the second GM in team history, taking over from Bob Gebhard after the 1999 season. Assistant general manager Bill Geivett also resigned Wednesday.

"First of all I want to thank Dan and Bill for their years of commitment to the Rockies organization," said Rockies owner Dick Monfort in a statement Wednesday. "They have been friends and colleagues, and their families have been a part of the Rockies family, for a very long time."

The Rockies reached the postseason twice under O'Dowd, including an improbable run to the National League pennant in 2007, but the club suffered through a 66-96 mark in 2014 -- the second-worst in the 22-year history of the franchise. Only the 2012 team was worse with 98 losses.

Bridich joined the Rockies' front office in 2004 and held different positions within the organization before taking over his most recent role as senior director of player development in September 2011. The 37-year-old was the senior director of baseball operations from 2006-11.

"We are very fortunate to have an extremely bright, energetic and talented group of individuals currently within our own organization that are ready and eager to utilize their skills and experience," added Monfort. "I know Jeff is anxious to begin working on the goal of putting a championship team on the field that the Rockies staff, our fans and our region deserve."

The Rockies last reached the postseason as a wild card in 2009 and haven't had a winning season since 2010.
