Former A's 1B Moore dies at 57

Nov 12, 2014 - 8:49 PM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Oakland Athletics first baseman Kelvin Moore has died at the age of 57, the team announced Wednesday.

The A's said Moore died Sunday of cardiac arrest at his home in Covington, Georgia, after suffering from multiple illnesses during the past several years, including diabetes.

Moore was a rookie in 1981 when the A's won the American League West. He made 16 plate appearances in five postseason games that year, hitting two singles in the AL Championship Series against the New York Yankees, who swept the A's in three games.

He batted .223 with eight home runs, 25 RBI and a .277 on-base percentage over 76 games for the A's between 1981-83, his only three seasons in the majors.

Moore is survived by his wife, Patricia, two daughters and one son.
