Rangers' Ogando becomes free agent

Dec 3, 2014 - 1:42 PM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando is a free agent after the team declined to offer him a contract for next season.

Ogando was an All-Star in 2011, but has been hampered by injuries the past two seasons and the Rangers did not want to offer him a contract that would have made him arbitration-eligible.

The 31-year-old right-hander made his debut in 2010 with a stellar 1.30 ERA in 44 games out of the bullpen, then was a 13-game winner for the Rangers in 2011 when he made 29 starts.

After a return to the bullpen in 2012, Ogando had three stints on the disabled list because of arm issues in 2013 and elbow problems forced him to miss the final four months of 2014. He was 2-3 with a 6.84 ERA in just 25 innings over 27 relief appearances last season.

First baseman Mitch Moreland and pitcher Neftali Feliz were tendered contracts before the deadline, while pitcher Michael Kirkman and infielder Adam Rosales were not tendered offers.
