Pirates sign Corey Hart

Dec 19, 2014 - 7:13 PM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed first baseman/outfielder Corey Hart to a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hart played 68 games for Seattle last year after missing the 2013 season recovering from knee surgery. He hit just .203 with six homers and 21 runs batted in for the Mariners.

The 32-year-old veteran spent his first nine big league seasons with NL Central rival Milwaukee and has a career .271 average with 160 homers and 529 RBI in 1,013 games. His best season was 2010, when he belted 31 home runs and knocked in 102 runs for the Brewers.

To open a spot on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated right-handed pitcher Preston Guilmet for assignment.
