Royals sign Alex Rios to 1-year deal
Dec 19, 2014 - 9:08 PM Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals signed outfielder Alex Rios to a one-year deal on Friday.Rios, who became a free agent after Texas declined his $13.5 million club option in October, will make $11 million next season, according to multiple reports.
The 33-year-old compiled a .280 batting average with four home runs, 54 RBI and a .311 on-base percentage over 131 games last season, his second with the Rangers.
Rios, who was an All-Star in 2006 and 2007, has hit for a career average of .278 with 165 homers, 762 RBI and 244 stolen bases in 1,586 games across 11 seasons with the Blue Jays, White Sox and Rangers.
Kansas City had been looking for an outfielder due to right fielder Nori Aoki becoming a free agent and with Josh Willingham retiring.
