Phillies add Harang to rotation

Jan 5, 2015 - 5:15 PM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies have signed pitcher Aaron Harang to a one-year contract worth $5 million.

The deal includes bonuses for performance and awards.

Harang was 12-12 with a 3.57 earned run average in 33 starts for the Atlanta Braves last season. He finished ninth in the National League with 204 1/3 innings pitched.

"Aaron brings a wealth of experience and durability to our rotation," said Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro in a statement Monday. "He had a very solid season for the Braves last year and will complement the left-handers in our rotation nicely."

Harang will join a Phillies rotation that is headlined by lefties Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee.

The 36-year-old right-hander has a career record of 122-128 with a 4.21 ERA in 358 games, all but six as a starter. He has also pitched for Oakland (2002-03), Cincinnati (2003-10), San Diego (2011), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2012), Seattle (2013) and the New York Mets (2013).
