Marlins finalize deal with Ichiro

Jan 28, 2015 - 3:23 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins officially announced the signing of 10-time All-Star Ichiro Suzuki to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

The Miami Herald reported last week that Suzuki, currently 156 hits shy of 3,000 in the major leagues, had agreed to a $2 million deal with the Marlins to presumably serve as a fourth outfielder and pinch-hitter.

Suzuki batted .284 with one home run and 22 RBI in 143 games with the New York Yankees last season. The 41-year-old owns a .317 average with 112 homers and 487 stolen bases since coming to the majors from his native Japan in 2001.

A two-time American League batting champion who won both the league's MVP and Rookie of the Year Awards with the Seattle Mariners in 2001, Suzuki also has won 10 Gold Gloves and accumulated over 200 hits in each of his first 10 major league campaigns.
