Phils' Lee shut down, put on 60-day DL
Mar 16, 2015 - 9:01 PM Clearwater, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Phillies starter Cliff Lee will be shut down indefinitely due to a strained left forearm, the team said Monday. The Phillies and Lee mutually decided to try to rehab the elbow rather than go with the recommended surgery, which would end the left-hander's season and possibly his career. The hope is that rehab will allow Lee to pitch again this season.
Lee was placed on the 60-day disabled list and will immediately be shut down from throwing, the team said. He will be sent home to rest and will be set up with a rehabilitation program to maintain his overall conditioning.
He will be brought to Philadelphia periodically to be evaluated to determine a time at which he might be able to begin a throwing program again.
Lee, 36, owns a 143-91 record with a 3.52 ERA over 13 seasons with Philadelphia, Cleveland, Texas and Seattle.
