Marlins sign Yelich to long-term extension
Mar 22, 2015 - 4:04 PM Jupiter, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Marlins have signed outfielder Christian Yelich to a contract extension through the 2021 season.The deal includes a club option for 2022. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but MLB.com reported it to be worth $49.570 million.
Yelich became the first Marlins outfielder to win a Gold Glove last year when he committed just one error in 262 chances. He also batted .284 with nine homers, 30 doubles, 54 runs batted in, 94 runs scored and a .362 on-base percentage in 144 games.
The 23-year-old native of California was selected by the Marlins with the 23rd overall pick of the 2010 draft and made his big league debut in July 2013. He is a .285 hitter with a .365 on-base percentage in 206 career games.
