Masterson eyes another win over O's
Apr 25, 2015 - 12:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Boston right-hander Justin Masterson tries to beat the Baltimore Orioles for the second time in less than a week on Saturday when the Red Sox resume a three-game set at Camden Yards.Masterson was a Patriots' Day winner against the O's on Monday, as he allowed a run and three hits in five innings to run his record to 2-0, while lowering his ERA to 5.74.
Masterson is 7-6 lifetime versus the Orioles, but hasn't pitched well in his career at Camden Yards, going 2-4 with a 7.71 ERA.
Baltimore, meanwhile, will counter with the same pitcher who opposed Masterson five fays ago, lefty Wei-Yin Chen, who absorbed the loss on Monday. Chen surrendered five unearned runs and three hits in that one over 4 1/3 innings. It was his first loss of the season and he is pitching to a 3.07 ERA.
Chen has faced the Red Sox 12 times and is 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA against them.
In Friday's opener, Brock Holt struck the go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning and Boston held on for a 7-5 win. David Ortiz collected two hits, including an earlier three-run blast and Hanley Ramirez also went deep for the Red Sox, who had dropped two of three to Tampa Bay.
"We're trying to win every game." Holt said. "To come up here and get the first win of the series is good. Every time we play those guys, it's going to be a good game."
Alexi Ogando (1-0) recorded the final out of the seventh for the win. Koji Uehara worked out of trouble in the ninth to post his third save.
Jimmy Paredes clubbed a two-run shot and Chris Davis added a solo shot and scored twice for the Orioles, who have lost five in a row.
Brian Matusz (0-2) failed to retire a batter and was charged with the deciding, but unearned, run.
These teams split a four-game series in Boston last weekend.
