Champs roll into Colorado

May 22, 2015 - 2:48 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants are on a roll and look to push their win streak to seven games when they start a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies Friday at Coors Field.

The NL West rivals play a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Giants have ripped off six wins in a row and are 14-5 this month. They recorded a three-game sweep of the rival Los Angeles Dodgers with Thursday's second straight 4-0 win, as Madison Bumgarner threw 6 1/3 shutout innings. He also homered at the plate and improved to 5-2.

"We kind of kid around with the pitchers sometimes that if you want to win the game, throw a shutout and hit a homer," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "(Bumgarner) was trying to do that."

Hunter Pence had two RBI and Angel Pagan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for San Francisco, which outscored the Dodgers 10-0 in the series and pulled within 1 1/2 games of Los Angeles for the NL West lead.

Ryan Vogelsong gets the nod for the Giants Friday and is 2-2 with a 5.31 earned run average in eight games (6 starts). Vogelsong is 2-0 in his last three starts and received plenty of run support in Saturday's 11-2 victory at Cincinnati, tossing 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball.

Vogelsong is 5-3 with a 4.76 ERA in 16 career games (11 starts) against the Rockies.

Colorado earned a split of a four-game set versus the Philadelphia Phillies with Thursday afternoon's 7-3 triumph.

Michael McKenry hit a two-run homer and Brandon Barnes went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies. Jorge De La Rosa gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings and Christian Bergman picked up the win in relief.

"The bullpen did a great job again," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "Jorge really labored through the outing, but he dodged some bullets and kept us in position to win the game, but it certainly wasn't easy."

Kyle Kendrick gets the nod for the Rockies Friday and is 1-5 with a 6.70 earned run average in eight starts. He is winless (0-5) since winning on Opening Day and pitched well in defeat in Sunday's 1-0 loss to the LA Angels, charged with only a run and three hits in seven innings.

Kendrick has allowed three runs over his last two starts and is 2-2 with a 4.68 ERA in eight career games (5 starts) against the Giants.

Colorado is 4-1 against San Francisco this season.
