Hunter homers twice as Twins top Brewers

Jun 27, 2015 - 9:38 PM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Torii Hunter had the 18th multi-home run game of his career in the Minnesota Twins' 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

In his first multi-homer game since June 8, 2012 with the Angels, Hunter drove in two runs, scored three times and also doubled.

Kyle Gibson (5-6) pitched 6 2/3 solid innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts, and Glen Perkins recorded his 24th save in as many opportunities.

"(Gibson) has to trust his stuff," said Twins manager Paul Molitor. "It's really good. People don't square him up a ton."

Brewers starter Matt Garza (4-10) joined Philadelphia's Aaron Harang as 10- game losers in the majors this season after allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in six innings.

Gibson retired the last 13 batters he faced in a prior start against Milwaukee this season, and he set down the first six Saturday before Jean Segura reached on shortstop Danny Santana's throwing error to start the third.

Milwaukee got its first hit of the game when Carlos Gomez doubled with one out in the fourth, and the Brewers went in front 1-0 a batter later on Adam Lind's RBI single.

That lead did not last long. After Hunter led off the fifth with a double, Garza walked Chris Herrmann and then allowed a three-run homer to Eduardo Escobar.

"He made a mistake in a spot where Escobar could hurt him," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell.

An inning later, Hunter crushed his first home run to deep left-center field to extend Minnesota's lead to 4-1.

The Brewers got a run back in the seventh when Ryan Braun came off the bench for a pinch-hit RBI single, but with two runners on base, Blaine Boyer replaced Gibson and struck out Gerardo Parra to end the threat.

Hunter's second home run of the game put Minnesota up 5-2 in the ninth, and Perkins only needed nine pitches to lock down the win.

Game Notes

Minnesota had lost four straight Gibson starts ... Garza has allowed 25 runs -- 18 earned -- in 24 innings over his last four starts ... Braun was not in the starting lineup for rest ... Hunter played in his 1,300th career game with Minnesota ... The Twins send Tommy Milone to the mound Sunday against Milwaukee's Mike Fiers in the rubber game of the three-game set.
