A's shoot for series win vs. Rockies

Jun 30, 2015 - 8:14 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics eye a quick series victory on Tuesday night when they resume a three-game set with the Colorado Rockies.

The Athletics got seven scoreless innings from Kendall Graveman and three homers by its offense in Monday night's 7-1 victory, which snapped the club's three-game slide.

Josh Reddick and Ike Davis both hit two-run homers in the first inning and Billy Butler added a solo shot as Oakland rebounded after getting swept by Kansas City over the weekend.

Graveman stayed red-hot by scattering five hits and three walks in his fifth victory of the season.

"He's pitched as consistently as anyone in the rotation," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Graveman.

David Hale allowed five runs on nine hits over seven frames for Colorado. Charlie Blackmon had a solo homer in defeat, Colorado's third in a row, while reigning NL Player of the Week Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 16 games.

"It's tough playing catchup," Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said. "They were just better than us tonight."

Sonny Gray was supposed to start this game for Oakland, but was scratched earlier in the day with flu-like symptoms.

Instead, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt from Triple- A Nashville to start in his place.

Bassitt joins the A's for the second time this year as he posted a 3.38 ERA in five relief appearances during his first stint from April 23 to May 10. He held opponents to a .135 batting average but issued nine walks in 10.2 innings.

In Nashville, the 26-year-old was 2-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 12 games, including nine starts.

Jorge De La Rosa is in line to start tonight for the Rockies despite a nagging finger injury that forced him out of his last outing early.

The left-hander had yielded just one run on four hits and three walks over five-plus innings on Thursday against Arizona before being forced out because of a cut on his middle finger. He fanned three and did not factor into his club's 6-4 win. De La Rosa remained 4-3 on the year while lowering his ERA to 5.15.

De La Rosa has made three career starts against the Athletics, going 1-1 with a 4.70 ERA.

The A's swept a three-game set in Colorado the last time they faced the Rockies in 2012. They are hosting this series for the first time since 2009, when the Rockies took all three meetings.
