Rockies edge A's

Jul 1, 2015 - 5:32 AM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jorge De La Rosa tossed seven scoreless innings as the Colorado Rockies defeated the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, in the second of a three-game set.

De La Rosa (5-3) scattered four hits, walked four and struck out four in the win.

Colorado, which had lost 14 straight interleague road games, snapped its three-game losing streak.

"I was really impressed (with De La Rosa)," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. He's the guy we want to give the ball to in these situations."

Chris Bassitt (0-1) made a spot start in place of ace Sonny Gray, who was scratched because of flu-like symptoms. Bassitt allowed one run on five hits over five innings.

"I felt OK," Bassitt said. "I didn't have much feel tonight, tried to pound the zone as best I could."

The A's, who won the series opener on Monday, have lost four of their last five.

Bassitt retired the first 10 batters he faced until Troy Tulowitzki's single with one out in the fourth. De La Rosa, meanwhile, held the A's hitless over the first three innings.

Colorado opened the scoring with a run in the fifth. Ben Paulsen singled to begin the inning and Michael McKenry followed with a base hit to left. With two outs, Charlie Blackmon looped a single into right that plated Paulsen for a 1-0 lead.

Oakland squandered a chance to tie the game in the sixth.

Billy Burns led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball by McKenry and stole third as Stephen Vogt walked. Ben Zobrist followed by grounding one to third baseman Nolan Arenado, who fired home to get the lead runner at the plate. Burns got in a long rundown, however, which allowed Zobrist to move to second. After De La Rosa intentionally walked Billy Butler to load the bases, Josh Phegley struck out swinging and Brett Lawrie grounded out to end the inning.

The Rockies tacked one more on in the seventh on a wild pitch by Fernando Rodriguez that pushed Wilin Rosario across home for a 2-0 lead.

Tommy Kahnle relieved De La Rosa in the eighth and allowed consecutive two-out hits, with Butler driving in Zobrist on a single to right.

LaTroy Hawkins came on in the ninth and converted his second save of the season.
