PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Rays have scored runs by the bushel during their current road trip and hope that trend continues in the second game of a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.
The Rays have won 10 of their last 13 games, while outscoring their opponents 37-13 in the last four contests.
Evan Longoria had four hits Friday and has at least three and a home run in each of his last three games for Tampa Bay. He is 12-for-24 with four home runs and 11 RBI in his last five games and is hitting .289 this month after a .234 mark in May.
Edwin Jackson ((4-6, 4.35 ERA) will try to continue a trend of strong starting pitching for the Rays. On Thursday, Matt Garza threw a one-hit complete game while striking out 10 and Scott Kazmir followed with a victory on Friday.
John Van Benschoten (0-2, 9.39) will start for the Pirates for the first time since May 12, when he gave up seven runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves. The righthander was promoted from Class AAA Indianapolis to start in place of the injured Phil Dumatrait.
