ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Phillies must be happy to see National League teams again.
After struggling in interleague play, the Phillies open a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday at Turner Field. Philadelphia, which suffered a 5-1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Sunday, went just 4-11 against American League foes.
Kyle Kendrick takes the mound for the Phillies, who have lost nine of their previous 11 contests. The 23-year-old righthander tossed eight scoreless frames in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Oakland Athletics, yielding four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
The Braves counter with rookie Charlie Morton (1-1, 4.24), who is making his fourth career start.
The 24-year-old Morton is coming off his first loss, surrendering four runs - two earned - and seven hits over six innings in last Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Philadelphia is 5-1 against Atlanta this season, winning each of their last four meetings.
The Braves likely will again be without third baseman Chipper Jones, the top hitter in the major leagues
who is still bothered by a quad injury. Jones has been out of the Braves' starting lineup for the past eight
games and after Sunday's loss in Toronto, manager Bobby Cox hinted that Jones could be headed to the disabled list.
