Bay, new-look Red Sox take on Athletics
Aug 2, 2008 - 10:27 AM Oakland (53-55) at Boston (62-48), 7:05 pm EDTBOSTON (Ticker) -- Jason Bay should get used to his team finding its way into the win column.
The Boston Red Sox and their newest acquisition take on the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Bay received a warm welcome in his debut with the Red Sox on Friday. The outfielder delivered in the 12th inning with a triple and then scored on Jed Lowrie's single that gave Boston a thrilling 2-1 win.
The 29-year-old was traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three-way deal that sent disgruntled outfielder Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final minutes prior to the non-waiver trade deadline on Thursday.
Bay, a two-time All-Star and the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year, scored both of Boston's runs and reached base four times.
Boston will send Jon Lester (9-3, 3.17 ERA) to the mound. Lester has allowed two runs or less in seven of his last nine starts and hasn't lost since May 25, when he gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings against the Athletics.
Oakland will counter with Dana Eveland (7-7, 3.88), who has lost two straight and hasn't reached six innings in five outings.
The 24-year-old lefthander will try to get his team back on track since it is 2-11 after the All-Star break.
