Angels RHP Rodriguez earns weekly honors

Aug 25, 2008 - 6:44 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim closer Francisco Rodriguez was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.

Rodriguez threw four scoreless innings and recorded three more saves as he continues on his record pace.

The Angels closer now has 50 saves this season and is on pace to break Bobby Thigpen's all-time mark of 57, which was set in 1990.

It is the first career weekly award for the 26-year-old righthander.

Other nominees included Chicago White Sox outfielder Nick Swisher, White Sox rookie second baseman Alexei Ramirez and Boston Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay.
