Pittsburgh Pirates

Team Report

The Pirates completed their home schedule with a 39-42 record.
They have had only one winning home season since moving to PNC
Park in 2001. ? SS Jack Wilson, who has been limited to only two
at bats this month due to a broken finger, received a lengthy
ovation from the PNC Park crowd Sunday in what might be his
final at bat as a Pirate there. Wilson, who singled as a
pinch-hitter, is the team's longest-tenured current player, and
there is widespread speculation he will be traded in the
offseason as part of the team's ongoing rebuilding effort. ?
Pittsburgh has assured itself of its second consecutive
last-place finish in the National League Central Division and
third in past four years. The team has not placed higher than
fourth since taking third place in 1999. ? The Pirates also have
lost 90 games for the sixth time in the past nine seasons -
losing 89 twice and 87 once the other three times.
