Knicks down Nets in laugher
Dec 6, 2013 - 5:34 AM Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Carmelo Anthony called the Knicks the "laughing stock of the league" before Thursday's visit to Brooklyn.By the end of the cross-town showdown, however, it was Anthony and the Knicks laughing at the expense of the Nets as New York rolled to a thorough 113-83 victory.
"We finally put a 48-minute game together," Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said.
Anthony filled the box score with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and was an efficient 8-of-12 from the floor. Iman Shumpert and Andrea Bargnani added 17 and 16 points, respectively, as the Knicks snapped their nine-game skid in convincing fashion, albeit against a struggling Brooklyn club.
The Nets can point to a slew of injuries and an influx of new faces trying to fit into first-year head coach Jason Kidd's system, but it doesn't change Brooklyn's pitiful 5-14 record and a losing streak at home that has reached six games.
Brook Lopez put up a 24-point, nine-rebound effort, while Joe Johnson shot a woeful 4-of-15 from the field for 13 points.
The Knicks made 57 percent of their shots, never trailed and pulled away for good in a one-sided third quarter that saw the visitors more than double-up the hosts, 34-16.
"Tonight they looked like the team of last year," said Kidd, who actually played for the Knicks last season.
New York, which led 50-43 at halftime, received 11 points from Shumpert and 10 from Anthony in the frame. Shumpert made a pair of 3-pointers during a 13-2 run that ended with a J.R. Smith trey for a 71-52 Knicks cushion with 4:09 remaining until the fourth.
The margin reached 25 just before the final minute, and Anthony fittingly hit a late 19-footer for an 84-59 cushion that was never challenged over the final 12 minutes.
