Anthony paces Knicks past Timberwolves

Mar 6, 2014 - 5:48 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Carmelo Anthony scored 33 points and the New York Knicks snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 118-106 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Amar'e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton added 18 points apiece and Tyson Chandler scored 15 with 14 rebounds as the Knicks also stopped a five-game road skid.

"We did a great job with the tempo, we pushed the ball and made easy shots," said Stoudemire. "And we also did a good job defensively."

Kevin Love scored 19 points and Nikola Pekovic had 17 to lead Minnesota, which had a three-game winning streak snapped, falling for just the second time in eight games.

The Timberwolves, down since New York's 9-0 run to open the game, used an 8-0 burst in the third quarter to cut an 11-point deficit to three. Pekovic scored five points during the run and Minnesota later got within a point.

The Knicks clung to an 88-86 lead entering the fourth quarter and started it on a 15-2 run to pull away, led by Anthony's six points.

"We came out flat, and in the fourth quarter we came out flat again," said Timberwolves guard J.J. Barea. "They did a great job. You gotta give them a lot of credit."

Earlier, Anthony went 6-for-11 and scored 13 points in the first quarter, including four during the 9-0 run to open the game. New York's lead ballooned to 16 near the end of the first quarter and was 38-24 going into the second.

Love had nine points in the second quarter but the Timberwolves only got as close as seven and trailed 66-55 at halftime.
