Silas out as Bobcats coach
Apr 30, 2012 - 7:14 PM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats on Monday announced that Paul Silas will not return as head coach for the 2012-13 season.Silas was named Charlotte's interim coach in December 2010 and guided the team to a 25-29 record over the remainder of the 2010-11 campaign. The interim title was removed on February 16, 2011.
But the Bobcats won just seven games in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season and dropped their final 23 contests, earning the dubious distinction of worst winning percentage in NBA history at .106.
Their last win came over Toronto on March 17 as they finished 7-59.
"I would like to personally thank Paul for everything he has done for this team under some pretty unique circumstances," said Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins.
"His basketball experience as a coach and a player speak for themselves. We have been fortunate to have someone of his character associated with this franchise and we hope he will continue to be a valuable resource to us in the future."
The former two-time NBA All-Star has compiled a 377-531 record in 11 seasons as head coach of the Clippers, Hornets, Cavaliers and Bobcats. Silas has also held assistant coaching positions with the Hornets, Knicks, Nets and Suns.
