T-Wolves sign Kirilenko

Jul 27, 2012 - 9:36 PM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Timberwolves signed free agent forward Andrei Kirilenko on Friday.

Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed, but the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that it is a two-year, $20 million deal.

Kirilenko, who returned to play for his old Russian team, CSKA Moscow, last season, won the Euroleague MVP, averaging 14.1 points and 7.5 rebounds.

"I'm excited to be returning to the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves," Kirilenko said. "The Wolves have one of the best coaches in the league in Rick Adelman and I feel my game fits in well with his style of play. I also like the talent that Minnesota has on the team with star players like Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio."

The 31-year-old veteran and one-time NBA All-Star had spent his entire 10-year NBA career with the Utah Jazz. He has career averages of 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals.

"We are pleased that Andrei has decided to resume his NBA career with the Minnesota Timberwolves," Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn said. "Over his time in the NBA, he has proven to be one of the best defensive players in the world. His ability to play multiple positions and big-game experience will be wonderful assets to our team."

Kirilenko was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2005-06 and was a Second-Team selection the two previous years.
