Spurs try to clinch homecourt throughout playoffs, host Suns
Apr 11, 2014 - 2:54 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs can lock up the top spot in the Western Conference with a win Friday versus the Phoenix Suns.The Spurs are 3 1/2 games ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder with three to play and have gone 2-2 since a franchise-record 19-game winning streak.
San Antonio is coming off Thursday's 109-100 win at Dallas, as Patty Mills scored 26 points and Kawhi Leonard finished with 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Tim Duncan exited the game in the first quarter to get his right knee examined before returning to the court to post 20 points and 15 boards for the Spurs.
"When I landed I kind of twisted my knee and it just scared me basically when it happened," Duncan said. "I just wanted to get off the court and make sure everything was alright."
The Spurs have won 14 in a row at home and are 31-8 as the host. They will visit the Houston Rockets and host the Los Angeles Lakers to close out the regular season.
Spurs guard Tony Parker is still nursing a balky back and is day-to-day.
Phoenix opened a three-game road trip with Wednesday's 94-88 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, as Eric Bledsoe scored the go-ahead basket with under two minutes to go and finished with 16 points.
Gerald Green and Goran Dragic scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, while P.J. Tucker ended with 15 points for the Suns, winners in three straight and 11 of the last 14 games. The Suns are just percentage points ahead of the Dallas Mavericks for the seventh seed in the West.
The Suns will visit Dallas on Saturday before closing out the season versus Memphis and Sacramento.
"They're all 'can't lose' at this point," Phoenix coach Jeff Hornacek said.
San Antonio is 2-1 against Phoenix this season and has won eight of the last 10 meetings between the teams. The Suns have dropped eight of nine and 20 of the last 25 trips to the Alamo City.
