Kidd to Bucks; Nets get two picks
Jul 1, 2014 - 3:48 AM Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Kidd's tenure with the Brooklyn Nets is over after just one year. His new job with the Bucks is about to begin.Milwaukee fired head coach Larry Drew Monday night. The Nets will receive two second-round draft picks (2015 & 2019) from Milwaukee in exchange for permitting Kidd to pursue a coaching opportunity with Milwaukee.
In one season as head coach of the Nets, Kidd led Brooklyn to a 44-38 record during the regular season and a first round playoff win over Toronto before losing to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Kidd's exit comes after his proposal for expanding his role in the team was rebuffed by ownership. He had two years left on his contract with the Nets.
Brooklyn initially requested a 2015 first-round pick as compensation, while the Bucks offered only one second-round pick at first.
Drew compiled a 15-67 record last season, his fourth as head coach in the NBA. His first three were spent with the Atlanta Hawks.
"Despite the challenging season, Larry always handled himself and represented the Bucks in a first-class manner," Bucks general manager John Hammond said. "Larry did the best he could in a difficult situation, especially given all of our injuries. I want to thank Larry for all of his efforts, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
The Nets said in a statement they would begin a coaching search immediately.
No one has shouted yet.
