Report: Billups calls it a career

Sep 10, 2014 - 2:15 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Chauncey Billups has apparently decided to call it a career.

Billups told Yahoo Sports he was retiring after 17 NBA seasons.

"It's just time," Billups told the media outlet. "I'm happy, excited. The game was very, very good to me. I felt like I was equally as good to the game the way I played it and the way I respected it and the way I carried myself through the process."

Billups spent the majority of his career in Detroit, including a return to the Pistons for the 2013-14 season. He appeared in just 19 games because of knee problems and the club decided against picking up his contract option for the 2014-15 campaign.

The Colorado native, who will turn 38 years old in late September, won an NBA title and was the Finals MVP with the Pistons in 2004 during his first stint with the team and was an All-Star in five straight seasons from 2006-10.

Billups was selected with the third overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft by Boston. He played 51 games for the Celtics and also spent time with Toronto, Denver, Minnesota, New York and the LA Clippers in addition to his time with the Pistons.

In 1,043 career NBA games, Billups averaged 15.2 points, 5.4 assists and 2.9 rebounds.
