Lakers' Young sidelined with thumb injury

Oct 4, 2014 - 12:17 PM El Segundo, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young will undergo surgery to have a torn thumb ligament repaired.

Young was hurt in practice earlier this week and an MRI exam on Friday revealed a complete tear of the radial collateral ligament.

Dr. Steven Shin of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic will perform surgery on Monday. A timetable for Young's return will then be established.

Young re-signed with the Lakers in July after averaging a career-high 17.9 points in 64 games last season, his first with the club.

The 29-year-old Los Angeles native has averaged 12.2 points in 480 career games with the Wizards, Clippers, 76ers and Lakers.
