Magic sign Vucevic to extension

Oct 23, 2014 - 8:58 PM Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic locked up franchise center Nikola Vucevic to a contract extension on Thursday, according to general manager Rob Hennigan.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vucevic emerged as one of the bright young centers in the game after the Magic acquired him in a four-team trade that sent star Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers on Aug. 12, 2012.

The USC product, who spent a season in Philadelphia after the 76ers drafted him 16th overall in 2011, has averaged a double-double both seasons in Orlando.

"Since arriving in Orlando, Nik has demonstrated consistent work habits and a constant hunger to improve," said Hennigan. "He's a high character, team-first player. We are proud of his development and are looking forward to continuing to grow together."

Vucevic averaged 14.2 points and 11 rebounds in 57 games last season.
