Lakers' Randle breaks leg in 1st NBA game
Oct 29, 2014 - 6:06 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Los Angeles Lakers rookie forward Julius Randle suffered a broken right leg in his first NBA game, Tuesday's 108-90 loss to the Houston Rockets. With just under seven minutes to play and the game well in hand for Houston, Randle fell hard after a drive to the lane. The No. 7 overall draft pick out of Kentucky grasped his leg, and the entire LA team and medical staff eventually made it out onto the court to show support for the rookie.
After several minutes, Randle's leg was placed in an air cast and he was helped onto a stretcher and wheeled off the court.
The Lakers said after the game that he suffered a broken tibia.
The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Randle was 1-for-3 from the floor for two points in 13 1/2 minutes.
He spent just one season at Kentucky before declaring for the draft, averaging 15.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 40 games for the Wildcats.
Randle was named the SEC's Freshman of the Year and was a First-Team All-SEC choice. He led the nation with 24 double-doubles and helped Kentucky reach the NCAA Tournament championship game last spring.
