Cavs, Hawks clash at the Q

Nov 15, 2014 - 3:53 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Two of the league's hottest teams meet up Saturday night when LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers play host to the Atlanta Hawks at Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs have won three straight since the panic-inducing setback in Salt Lake City 10 days ago. The Hawks have emerged victorious in four in a row, although three of those wins came at home.

Cleveland earned its third consecutive win with a hard-fought, 122-121 victory over the Boston Celtics Friday night at TD Garden.

James scored a season-high 41 points and the Cavaliers overcame a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Kyrie Irving scored 15 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter for Cleveland, including 12 during a big run, but missed a one-handed floater to give the ball back to Boston with seven seconds remaining and a chance to win the game.

But Celtics guard Rajon Rondo bobbled his dribble against Shawn Marion at the other end and didn't get a shot off before the buzzer, giving Cavaliers coach and Boston native David Blatt a win in his first game in his home town.

Anderson Varejao scored 16 and Kevin Love had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

James scored a season high four days after going for 32 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists against New Orleans. (He was originally credited with a triple-double before the NBA took back one rebound and one assist.)

The All-Defensive team forward was a little displeased with the team's defense, especially in the third quarter when Boston pulled away thanks to a 42-point quarter.

"We gave up a 40-point quarter and that's unacceptable if we want to continue to grow, but we showed growth in the fourth quarter and that's huge for our team being a young team," said James. "We just kept fighting, we kept getting stops, we kept executing offensively, and we walk out of here with a win."

The Cavs begin a three-game homestand Saturday and will face the Denver Nuggets on Monday, then it's a showdown with the defending champion San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.

Paul Millsap scored 19 points with nine rebounds to lead eight Atlanta players in double figures, and the Hawks defeated the Miami Heat, 114-103, on Friday at Philips Arena.

Al Horford also tallied 19 with six rebounds and four assists and Jeff Teague supplied 16 points with nine assists for Atlanta.

Thabo Sefolosha, Shelvin Mack and Kyle Korver each deposited 12 points, while Mike Scott and Dennis Schroder added 11 and 10, respectively, as the Hawks shot 42-of-75 as a team.

Horford scored the first seven points of the game that were part of a 15-3 run for the Hawks. Eight players scored for the Hawks in the first quarter as they built a 35-23 lead.

"It was good, but I think we left some points on the table," Korver said of the start. "I thought we could have made that hole a little bit deeper for them."

The Hawks swept all three meetings last season and are 12-2 in their last 14 against the Cavs. Atlanta has won five of the last six meetings in Cleveland.
