Raptors put win streak on line in Atlanta

Nov 26, 2014 - 3:46 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Raptors put their five-game winning streak on the line Wednesday night when they visit Philips Arena to face the Atlanta Hawks.

The Raptors, who own the best record in the Eastern Conference and share the top mark in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, haven't lost in almost two weeks. Their last setback came at home against the Chicago Bulls on Nov. 13, but the Raptors are 3-1 this season on the road.

Toronto's win streak reached six on Monday with a 104-100 victory over the Phoenix Suns at Air Canada Centre.

Jonas Valanciunas had 27 points and 11 rebounds, DeMar DeRozan scored 23 and the Raptors survived.

The Raptors led by as many as 17 early in the fourth quarter before Isaiah Thomas made three consecutive 3-pointers to punctuate a quick 14-0 run by the Suns, who later took their first lead since the first quarter on two Eric Bledsoe free throws with 3:04 remaining.

But Phoenix scored just five more points and DeRozan made four straight free throws in the last 14.7 seconds to put Toronto over the top.

Lou Williams was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday and scored 17 points off the bench for the Raptors, who ran their record to 4-0 this season against Western Conference teams.

"We gave ourselves a chance to win the game," said DeRozan. "(Valanciunas) dominated. We got him the ball on the low block and he got the three-foot, five-foot shots he always makes."

The Raptors host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, then head west for three straight.

The Hawks have won two in a row and five of their last seven. On Tuesday, Atlanta toppled Southeast Division leaders, the Washington Wizards, in DC, 106-102.

Jeff Teague scored 28 points to lead the Hawks past the Wiz. Paul Millsap added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks, while Mike Scott had 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

"It's a big win for us," said Teague. "We just came out and competed tonight."

Scott and Shelvin Mack scored Atlanta's first 16 points of the final period, giving the Hawks an 84-75 lead with 6:21 left. Scott ended with 12 points in the fourth and Mack finished with 13 on the night.

The Wizards hit a series of 3-pointers in the final minute to make the final score close.

The Hawks forced 25 Wizards turnovers, which led to 28 points. The Wizards' famed backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 13 turnovers.

The Raptors beat the Hawks by seven in Toronto on Oct. 29, but have dropped two straight and 10 of 12 in Atlanta.
