Warriors' Bogut out indefinitely

Dec 19, 2014 - 4:34 AM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors could be facing another extended absence from Andrew Bogut.

The team announced Thursday that the oft-injured center will be sidelined indefinitely due to swelling in his right knee, with Bogut to undergo platelet-rich plasma therapy to treat the problem.

Bogut has missed the Warriors' last four games with knee pain. An MRI taken last week revealed chrondomalacia, an inflammation of the patella and deterioration of cartilage, as well as bone edema.

Houston Rockets All-Star Dwight Howard missed 11 games earlier this season after also having a PRP procedure performed on his knee.

"We fully support Andrew in his decision to undergo the PRP treatment," said Warriors general manager Bob Myers. "Our number one concern is that Andrew is 100 percent healthy and we will continue to support him in any way we can to make that happen."

Injuries have plagued Bogut throughout his 10-year NBA career, and particularly so in recent years. The 2005 No. 1 overall pick was limited to just 12 games by a fractured ankle while with Milwaukee in 2011-12, and played in only 32 after being traded to Golden State the following season while recovering from the break. The native Australian also sat out last year's Western Conference quarterfinal series with the Los Angeles Clippers because of a broken rib.

Bogut had been healthy for much of this season, starting Golden State's first 20 games and helping the Warriors to an NBA-best 21-3 start. The 7-footer has averaged 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks.
