Bulls snap Warriors' 19-game home winning streak
Jan 28, 2015 - 7:01 AM Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Call the Chicago Bulls the road warriors of the NBA.Derrick Rose hit a go-ahead jumper with seven seconds left in overtime and the Chicago Bulls snapped the Golden State Warriors' 19-game home winning streak following a 113-111 triumph on Tuesday night.
Rose nailed a tough, contested step-back from the right wing over the outstretched arm of Klay Thompson for a two-point Chicago edge. Thompson then missed a runner from inside the left elbow at the other end.
The Bulls have 17 road wins this season, tied with the Atlanta Hawks for the most road victories in the NBA.
Rose finished with 30 points, but was just 13-of-33 from the floor and turned the ball over a career-high 11 times to go with a single assist.
"I was just trying to do anything to win," Rose said. "I knew Jimmy (Butler) was going to be out. Just trying to take on that load."
Butler, Chicago's leading scorer, missed the contest due to an illness.
Pau Gasol posted 18 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists, while Joakim Noah added 18 points, 15 boards and six helpers for the Bulls, who have won three of their last four games on the heels of a 2-6 stretch.
Klay Thompson tallied 30 points and 10 rebounds, David Lee supplied 24 points, nine boards and six assists and Stephen Curry provided 21 points and nine helpers for Golden State, which fell to 21-2 at home this season.
It was 14-0 against the Eastern Conference coming in.
The Warriors were 0-of-13 from beyond the arc after the break. They were 9- of-20 from long distance in the first half.
They were up by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter and led 99-92 midway through the frame before the Bulls ripped off six straight points to get within a point. Rose hit a pair of runners and a Gasol turnaround jumper whittled the deficit to 99-98 with 4:08 remaining in regulation.
After Golden State built its cushion to 105-100 following a Curry runner, seven consecutive points from Chicago gave it the lead. A Noah layup, two Gasol free throws and a Kirk Hinrich 3-pointer with 15.8 on the clock staked Chicago to a 107-105 edge.
Andre Iguodala was off the mark on a straightaway triple at the other end, but Draymond Green's tip-in knotted the contest with 2.6 ticks in regulation.
Earlier, the Warriors led 35-29 following a quarter of play and 56-51 at the break.
Chicago clawed within 81-79 after three when Aaron Brooks put in a reverse layup at the horn.
Golden State, though, began the fourth on a 10-1 surge. Lee's three-point play capped the burst and gave the hosts a 91-80 cushion.
"It was a great game, it was a fun game to be part of. We just couldn't close it," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
