Magic aim for 4-game winning streak with Heat in town
Feb 25, 2015 - 2:56 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic will try to extend their season-high winning streak to four games when they host the Southeast-rival Miami Heat Wednesday at Amway Center.Orlando has won the first three tests of this four-game homestand, beating New York, New Orleans and Philadelphia. In Sunday's 103-98 victory over the 76ers, former Sixer Nikola Vucevic muscled his way to 31 points and 14 rebounds.
Victor Oladipo and Channing Frye scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, for the Magic, who scored 23 points off 21 Philly turnovers. Another former Sixer, Willie Green, recorded 16 points off the bench, while rookie Elfrid Payton filled the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Payton was drafted by the Sixers and was traded to Orlando.
"I'm glad we came out with a good effort and put ourselves in a position to win," said Payton.
The Magic improved to 4-2 under interim coach James Borrego.
Orlando is 9-18 at home and will visit Atlanta Friday night. The team will then return to the Magic Kingdom for four straight games versus Charlotte, Phoenix, Sacramento and Boston.
Miami is in the midst of playing eight of 11 games on the road and will visit Orlando and New Orleans for a quick trip.
The Heat played the last two games at home, losing to the Pelicans before a 119-108 victory over the 76ers Monday night. Luol Deng scored 29 points, new acquisition Goran Dragic had 23 points and 10 assists and Dwyane Wade added 18 points for Miami, which has alternated wins and losses in the last six games.
Wade was asked about the addition of Dragic in Miami.
"It's great for us. It's giving us a new dynamic," Wade said.
Miami is 2-1 without star forward Chris Bosh, who, the team learned last week, will miss the remainder of the season because of blood clots in his lungs.
The Heat 14-15 as the visitor this season and have split the first two matchups with Orlando this season. The division foes will meet again April 13 in South Beach.
Orlando stopped a 10-game slide in this series with a 102-101 win at Miami on Dec. 29. The Heat have prevailed in each of their last five games in Orlando.
