The Pelicans did not have Anthony Davis, and without the All-Star center, the Mavs won the battle in the paint, 50-24. Dallas also only turned the ball over seven times and forced 13 turnovers.
"The points in the paint certainly hurt us," Pelicans head coach Monty Williams said. "I thought we got a bit tired tonight."

"I think we started off the game the right way with driving and getting to the basket, and the guys off the bench just came in and kept that pace going," Jefferson said.
The Pelicans countered on the perimeter, hitting 9-of-17 from 3-point range in the first half, including a Gordon triple in the final minute that gave them a 58-55 advantage at the break.
Dante Cunningham scored on the opening possession of the third quarter, but the Pelicans missed their next 12 shots. Dallas' subsequent 16-0 run, highlighted by seven points from Jefferson, gave the hosts the lead for good.
Dallas outscored New Orleans 25-13 in the quarter and opened the fourth with seven of the first nine points, with Nowitzki's 3-pointer extending the lead to 87-73.
