Clippers, Lakers tangle again
Apr 7, 2015 - 1:57 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will close out their season series with the rival Lakers Tuesday at Staples Center.The Clippers just defeated the Lakers, 106-78, on Easter Sunday and were led by Blake Griffin's 18 points. DeAndre Jordan had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Matt Barnes scored 14 points and Chris Paul recorded 15 assists to go along with seven points and two steals.
J.J. Redick and Hedo Turkoglu added 12 points apiece in the rout.
"Our defense took them out of the game tonight," Redick said.
Winners in three straight and 10 of 11 games, the Clippers are fifth in the Western Conference standings - one-half game ahead of San Antonio and only 1 1/2 games out of the No. 2 spot.
The Clippers will also host Memphis and Denver on this three-game residency and have a 27-11 record at home this season. The team received some good news on top reserve Jamal Crawford. Crawford was back at practice last week and could return as soon as Tuesday.
Crawford has been out since March 2 with a calf injury and is averaging 16.4 ppg.
Meanwhile, the Lakers suffered their franchise-record 56th defeat of the season Sunday night.
Wesley Johnson scored 16 points and both Tarik Black and Jabari Brown ended with 10 points for the Lakers, who struggled from the field and made 39 percent of their shots. The Lakers had 19 turnovers for 23 Clippers points.
The Clippers were up 49-36 at halftime and their lead continued to grow following the break. Paul delivered a pass to Griffin for an alley-oop dunk to make it 81-52 late in the third quarter.
"When Chris and Blake turn it up a notch, we just couldn't turn it up with them," Lakers coach Byron Scott said.
Jordan Clarkson, the Rookie of the Month in March, was held to just two points on 1-of-6 shooting.
The Lakers, who have lost three straight and five of six games, are 9-29 on the road and will visit Denver on Wednesday.
The Clippers are 3-0 against the Lakers this season and have won six straight and 10 of the last 11 matchups between the teams. The Lakers are winless in the last five games as the guest in this Pacific rivalry.
