Clippers end regular season against Suns

Apr 14, 2015 - 1:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - There's a logjam atop the Western Conference standings and the Los Angeles Clippers are one of the teams involved.

The Clippers hope to claim one of those top spots when the dust settles and will close the regular season Tuesday on the road against the Phoenix Suns.

Los Angeles moved into a three-way tie with San Antonio and Houston for the No. 2 playoff seed in the West and is riding a six-game winning streak. It recorded a 110-103 victory over the Denver Nuggets Monday night and was led by DeAndre Jordan's 20 points, 21 rebounds and four blocks.

Blake Griffin flirted with a triple-double, posting 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, and J.J. Redick netted 20 points for the Clippers, who have won 13 of their last 14 games and went 3-0 on the homestand.

"We got stops down the stretch," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "They made this game very difficult."

Chris Paul had 17 points and nine assists in the win.

The Clippers closed the regular season with a 30-11 home record and have home- court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They have won seven in a row on the road and are 25-15 as the guest.

Phoenix will miss the playoffs for a fifth straight year and has lost four straight and nine of the last 10 games.

The Suns went 0-4 on a recent road trip and suffered a sixth straight loss as the visitor with Sunday's 107-91 setback in San Antonio. Gerald Green had 23 points, Eric Bledsoe added 20 with 10 assists and Markieff Morris scored 12 points in defeat.

"They (Spurs) have veteran guys and they make great passes," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "In the game, when you cut, there's only a certain amount of time you're open. They know when to throw it. If you wait until he's totally open, it's too late."

Phoenix, which trailed by as many as 24 points in the fourth quarter, has a 22-18 record at US Airways Center this season and is 1-3 in the previous four games in the desert.

The Suns are 0-3 against the Clippers and have never been swept in this matchup that dates back to 1970-71. The Clippers have won six straight against the Suns and three in a row at Phoenix.
