Clippers rout Suns in season finale

Apr 15, 2015 - 7:00 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers clinched at least the Western Conference's third seed on Tuesday. They will have to wait and see if they'll stay at the two-line.

Chris Paul had 22 points and six assists as the Clippers cruised to a 112-101 win over the Phoenix Suns.

"This was our last game before the playoffs and we just want sure everything was going in the right direction," Paul said.

Blake Griffin posted 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists and DeAndre Jordan supplied 13 points and 14 boards for Los Angeles (56-26), which can clinch the No. 2 seed with losses Wednesday by both the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs play the New Orleans Hornets, while the Rockets face the Utah Jazz.

Archie Goodwin netted 18 points to lead the Suns (39-43), who dropped 10 of their last 11 games to close the season.

"I think at how young our guys are, I think they got better. I think that's a positive step, " Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said of the season.

The Clippers led 32-26 following a quarter of play, but quickly turned the game into a laugher after outscoring Phoenix 37-17 in the second.

LA was up 48-36 midway through the frame before using an 18-5 run to create even more distance. Paul knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and netted eight points during the surge, which was capped on two J.J. Redick triples.

The Clippers, who took a 69-43 cushion into the locker room, cruised to the easy win in the second half.
