NBA suspends Olynyk, Smith over Game 4 acts

Apr 28, 2015 - 12:08 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NBA suspended Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk one game over the play that resulted in a separated shoulder for Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love, who called the act intentional.

Cavs guard J.R. Smith was suspended two games for striking a Celtics player in the face on Sunday as Game 4 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals turned increasingly physical after Love's injury.

The Cavs won the game to finish a four-game sweep but will be without Love at least for the semifinals after he was also diagnosed with ligament damage and bone bruising in his separated left shoulder.

The injury occurred as he and Olynyk went to chase after a loose ball in the first quarter. Olynyk clutched and yanked Love's arm, jarring it away from his body.

Love called the play "bush-league" and told reporters he had "no doubt" Olynyk did it on purpose. Olynyk denied he was trying to injure Love. He will be suspended the first game of the 2015-16 season he is eligible to play.

The Cavs will play the first two games of their next series without Smith, who was ejected from the game in the third quarter after hitting Boston's Jae Crowder in the face while trying to box out the Celtics forward.

After Crowder gave Smith a little shove in the back, Smith wheeled around and connected with the back of his right hand. Crowder left the game with what Boston said was a left knee sprain suffered on the same play.

Cavs forward Kendrick Perkins was fined $15,000 after his Flagrant-1 foul for shoving Crowder to the floor during Sunday's game was upgraded to a Flagrant-2.
