Olympic qualifying: Australia 71, New Zealand 59
Aug 15, 2015 - 1:03 PM MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills hit two three-pointers in the final four minutes Saturday to help Australia pull away from New Zealand for a 71-59 win in an Oceania qualifying match for next year's Rio Olympics. Before a sellout crowd of 15,000 at Rod Laver Arena, Australia outscored New Zealand 18-9 in the final six minutes as Mills, a late replacement in the past week for the injured Dante Exum, finished with 17 points, as did France-based David Anderson.
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova added 15 points and had five rebounds. Golden State center Andrew Bogut added four points for Australia while Corey Webster led New Zealand with 22 points.
The teams play again Tuesday in Wellington, New Zealand in the two-game, total-points series.
